Practical Session 2 Update - India

We appreciate how much the cancellation of our exams has affected learners and we are working hard on solutions to ensure learners can gain their qualifications at the earliest opportunity.

However, on the basis of official and local advice we will be cancelling Session 2 Practical exams scheduled for October-December. We are very sorry for the impact on teachers and candidates and we will continue to monitor the situation. Thank you for your loyalty and support while these restrictions remain in place.

We will be gradually rolling out remotely-assessed Performance Grades https://gb.abrsm.org/en/performancegrades/ internationally and will share exam dates and booking periods soon.

The booking period for online Music Theory exams at Grades 1 to 5 is now open. We are unable to offer Music Theory exams at Grades 6 to 8. The closing date is Monday 12 October. To book exams you will need to register and create an account with our new online booking service.

If you choose to use a CD accompaniment for your ABRSM Jazz exam here are a few points to remember on the day.

  • Make sure that your CD player is reliable and easy to use.
  • There will only be one 13 amp socket in the exam room.
  • Make sure the CD player has a long mains lead and that it is close to the music stand.
  • Remember to bring the correct CD.
  • Make sure that the CD is clean and unscratched.
  • Take a note of your track numbers into the room – you will see them on the top left-hand corner of the first page of each tune.
  • Track 16 is the tuning track.
  • Remember to play the track with the ‘minus one’ version and not the one with the full performance.
  • Remember to adjust the volume before you go in and make any small adjustments to the balance in the exam room if you need to.
  • Remember to press the stop button at the end of each tune!

MP3 players

If you have transferred your CD accompaniment on to an MP3 player for your ABRSM Jazz exam, here are a few points to remember on the day.

  • Bring the correct CD with you. Even though you won’t be using it to provide the accompaniment to your performance, it is still necessary to bring it for copyright reasons (to prove that you own a copy of the CD).
  • Make sure that your MP3 player (with speakers) is reliable and easy to use.
  • There will only be one 13 amp socket in the exam room.
  • Make sure your MP3 player/speakers has a long mains lead and that it is close to the music stand.
